2020 Award Winners

Well, 2020 might have been a bad year for many, but there was a small glimmer of success for 4 Harriers as announced in our 2021 Virtual AGM.

Huge Congratulations to the club awards winners for 2020:
Male R.O.T.Y – Craig Burton
Female R.O.T.Y – Tara Burkill
Harrier of the year – Team Marsh – (Heather and Kenny).

Great work this last year everybody, and thanks loads for all the support you’ve given to the club.

Club sessions resumed

Club sessions have resumed, however groups are limited to 6 runners (including Run Leader), so make sure you register your interest as soon as the booking forms are released.

Form is available via the Facebook Group, or you can contact a member of the Committee if you’re not in the group or having difficulty registering your place.

Merry Christmas Harriers!

Well then Harriers, another year is almost at a close (and what a strange year it has been). Not many races this year, apart from the odd few at the start, and club sessions were sporadic through the year as the pandemic progressed. Despite all that we hope you enjoyed all the virtual challenges that the Committee and the members have organised for you, and in these difficult times we hope we’ve managed to keep your spirits up in some way.

Hopefully things will look brighter in the New Year, and we’ll be able to resume club sessions again in some form or other. The important matter for us all though is to keep ourselves, our families and our friends safe and healthy.

Until then the Committee hope you all have a fabulous Christmas and New Year. Don’t forget to get out and run off some of that turkey and those chocolates, puddings and mince pies! Also don’t forget to keep posting your pictures and running stories in the the Facebook group to keep us all entertained!!

(p.s. can you identify the mystery Harrier in the Christmas picture? As well as continuing to dash round Doncaster he’ll no doubt have been working flat out to make sure you get your presents and goodies you asked for – and no, it isn’t Santa!)

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) CLUB STATEMENT

Your DHRC committee have decided to take pro-active steps to ensure our members and families are aware of what to do regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Since the risk level in the UK has risen and given the news of the spread of the virus to Europe we felt it was important for the welfare of our members and families to be open and support each other. It is Important that our families and members take the spread of the virus seriously and we do all we can to prevent it spreading further and putting others at risk. With regards to club activities, we see no reason to suspend any club sessions at the moment, but we strongly advise you all to follow general guidance and that you do not come to sessions if you have any flu or virus symptoms as detailed in the links above. Please also avoid personal contact (and please don’t be offended if others refuse contact) and sanitise your hands before and after where possible. Please also be aware and follow any guidance issued by any of the facilities we use.

If anyone has been to any of the areas that have been classified by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as an ‘all but essential travel’ destination, then please do not attend sessions until 2 weeks after returning to the UK and have no symptoms. Please do get in touch with the Club Welfare Officer (Caroline Greening on secretary@danumharriers.co.uk) so we can talk any of this through with you and follow the advice given in the links above. Look after yourselves and each other.

Club Relays Report, Saturday 9th November

Well a great time was had by all this Saturday at the inaugural Club Relays in memory of popular local runner Michael Wakefield, who sadly passed away whilst running Doncaster parkrun in 2016.

The Harriers competed against several local clubs in a total of 22 teams, including Doncaster Athletics Club, Doncaster Tri and several others.  The cold November weather didn’t dampen the atmosphere and all clubs had a good turnout for this inaugural outing for what hopefully will become an annual event.

We managed to field a team that came second overall, leading to our first ever club trophy!  Three of our pairings also got medals in their category, so all in all a successful result for the club and one which should inspire us on to bigger and better things!

Final Team results from ‘Michael Wakefield Relay Trophy 2019’ were:

  1. DAC (9) – 82:20
  2. Danum (15) – 88:40
