Manchester Marathon – Coach

Ok you Manchester marathoners and supporters, below are the key details and handy tips to assist your preparation for the day.

  • The coach will depart at 06:00 from the Vue car park or on the road leading into that car park.
  • Please get there in plenty of time (05:45) so we can get you all onboard ready to leave at 06:00.
  • The coach will drop us as near to the official car parking at Old Trafford. It’s approximately a one mile walk to start area.
  • The coach will depart for our return journey to Doncaster at 16:30 from where it drops us off (tbc that morning when we get dropped off). Again please be there in plenty of time.
  • Please ensure you have a rucksack/bag with everything you’ll need for the day. You will need to put that bag in the bag drop as the coach that drops us off may not be the same one that picks us up.

Suggested things to pack:

  1. A bit of pre race food – it’ll be a long time between eating your porridge at 0515 to your race start so pack a banana, snack bar or two.
  2. A bottle of water / drink.
  3. Vaseline!
  4. Plenty of warm clothing, coat, jogging bottoms, jumper, woolly hat etc. especially for after as you will get cold when your bodies in shock after running all that way!
  5. Mobile Phone for pics and emergency contact.
  6. Money for warm food / hot drink after etc. There are plenty of food stalls near the finish area.
  7. Bottle of water/fluids/protein shake. Snacks for after.
  8. A pair of sliders/flip flops to relieve those feet afterwards.
  9. A small towel to dry yourself or sit on if you’re cramping or need to sit down to get shoes on and off.
  10. Wet wipes, always handy to freshen up after.
  11. Lastly and most importantly, your race number!! Pinned on your running top ready to go!

This week’s sessions (w/c 10th Apr)

Hi all, forms for next week are up – please remember to book on if you’re coming.

Tuesday’s interval set will be 12 * (45 seconds, off 60 recovery).

Things will be slightly different for Thursday. Because there are so many people doing Manchester (or London), many of them leaders, we’re going to simplify the evening and just have 3 groups.

It’ll be pretty much like an away social (except not away 😆) with more relaxed pacing in all groups.

Route is going to be M2R – the first part is in the woods, but comes back out and near to the Dome at about 3 and a half miles. This enables all groups to be out of there still with plenty of light and gives those doing the marathon the opportunity to peel off at that point (to the bar?)

Those who want to do the full route can do so – the remainder of it is on road.

See you in the week!

Club Membership Fees 2023-2024 – Now overdue

A huge ‘thank you’ to the 104 club members who have paid their membership fees for 2023-2024.

If you’ve not yet paid your club membership fee, please can you pay by Wednesday 5th April. If we don’t receive your payment by that date, we’ll assume that you don’t wish to renew your membership.

The fee details are below:
· 1st Claim membership – £31. This includes £14 Danum Harriers Running club membership, plus £17 England Athletics (EA) membership. The Committee made the decision to freeze the Danum Harriers Running club fee for 2023/2024.
· 2nd Claim membership (where your 1st claim is with another running club) – £14.

Please can you transfer your payment to our usual bank account (see Amanda or Jo for details).

In the reference field please can you state ‘Fees & Name’. This ensures that we can relate each payment to the person transferring the money.

We’re looking forward to having another great year of running with the Danum Harriers.

Best wishes
DHRC Committee

This week’s sessions (w/c 3rd Apr)

Hi all, forms for next week are up. Please remember – put your name down if you’re coming!

On Tuesday, Mark Bower will be leading a social run. This is likely to be on a mix of road and into and out of a bit of trail before the light fails.

The interval session at the Rail College is 10 * (90 seconds at ~5K pace, off 90 second recovery).

Thursday’s route will skip to R5 for the benefit of those in marathon taper (it’s a shorter route – just over 5 miles).

The following week, if the weather and light permits, we are likely to begin back on our mixed routes. M1 is 6 miles, but offers a cut short of just over 3 miles – ideal for those in the final throes of taper before Manchester, or for those carrying on regardless. Will update on that next week.

See you in the week!
