Rules
- The competition is open to all Danum Harriers members.
- Best four count: There will be five races over the year with your best four out of five scores counting towards your final score.
- Scoring: compete on age/sex grade for the distance plus an elevation bonus.
- Age grade score is calculated by the age grade of the distance divided by ten. E.g. a 52.1% age grade score would yield 5.21 points. Note: age used is the runners’ age at 1st Jan 2026.
- The elevation bonus boosts lower age-grade scores from tough climbs. Total elevation gain (ft) ÷ 1000 gives the factor. For example, 750 ft gain → 1000 / 750 = 0.75 points.
- Then a multiplier adjusts for elevation sharpness: 10 ÷ distance (km). A 5 km race has a multiplier of 10 ÷ 5 = 2, so 0.75 points become 1.5. (New for 2026, reflecting lower scores in shorter races with steep climbs.)
- The combined score is then rounded to one decimal place to yield your score for that race. In the above example you’d get 6.7.
- Males and females compete together: as the scores are based on age and sex grade, male and female runners compete together for the top prize, with awards for the top three of each sex.
- In the event of a tie for one of the top three places, the points for each race will be recounted without any rounding to one decimal place.
- If an event is cancelled by the organisers and it is not possible to plan a suitable replacement, the final points will be based on the other races.
