1 year ago this week I made the bold journey down to The Dome to join the Harriers for my first ever time. I’m quite a confident person and I’ve not had any nerves since my wedding day 9 years ago. But, to put it bluntly, I was ****ing myself. In my head there was going to be all these elite runners and I’d be there as the newbie stood on my own in the corner not knowing anyone. How wrong was it!?! I first met Simon Rayner who took me over to Lynn Hutchinson (who then embarrassed me by getting everybody to applaude the newcomer!). Everybody was so welcoming and I’ve absolutely loved my first year. Its a brilliant club and I wish I joined earlier. The mix of abilities and support is amazing. Joining the Harriers 12 months ago is one of the best decisions I’ve made recently and I feel like a solid club member and proud to fly the Harriers flag. Onwards and upwards for the next 12 months. I have always loved going the gym and trying to keep myself fit, but since having had some major surgery a few years ago I have struggled to get back to fitness. I joined the Harriers 6 months ago and even though I am normally towards the back of the groups I run in there is always an encouraging word from friends that recognise your struggles. The enthusiasm, support and passion within the group is refreshing and addictive. I have never before seen so many sincere smiling faces on club nights, and although I have never been a natural runner I’m starting to think like this is something I can do. (Anthony)

I have always seen lots of Danum Harriers vests at my local Parkrun and always thought I would like to join a group like that but it would be too selective. How wrong was I!! From the 1st interaction everyone has been friendly, helpful and most importantly for me, welcoming. I attended 2 sessions and then joined immediately after as I was so impressed, people actually remembered my name and took time to speak to me. I am a shy person, so this meant a lot! I am looking forward to lots more runs and events and wearing my vest with pride and want to thank everyone for making it a great thing to be a part of. (Michael)
