Rules

  1. The competition is open to all Danum Harriers members.
  2. Best four count. There will be five races over the year with runners’ best four out of five counting towards their final score.
  3. Compete on age/sex grade, with a bonus for climbs. Points earned are derived from runners’ age grade score for the distance, plus a bonus applied according to the elevation gain of the race. This bonus is to boost lower age grade scores that come with difficult climbs. They are calculated as follows:
    1. Age grade: The age grade of the distance divided by ten. E.g. a 52.1% age grade score would yield 5.21 points. Note: age used is the runners’ age on the day of the first race of the series.
    2. Elevation gain: The elevation gain of the race in feet divided by 1000. Eg. A race with 750ft/229m of elevation gain would yield 0.75 points.
    3. The combined score is then rounded to one decimal place. In the above example the race score would be 6.0 (as would all scores between 5.950 and 6.049).
  4. Males and females compete together. As the scores are based on age and sex grade, male and female runners compete together for the three trophies.
  5. In the event of a tie for one of the top three places, the points for each race will be recounted without any rounding to one decimal place.
  6. If an event is cancelled by the organisers and it is not possible to plan a suitable replacement, the final points will be based on the other races.
