About

Danum Harriers are a Doncaster based Running Club, formed in February 2013 by a group of like minded runners, who wanted a simple, no-frills, road and off road running club. In January 2014, we affiliated to England Athletics as a sign of our intentions to provide additional competition to our members with the South Yorkshire road leagues, and Cross Country, along with national EA organised races.

For those who are wondering how we came upon our name, Danum was, of course, the Roman name for the town of Doncaster.

Social Benefits: We are a friendly club, who pride ourselves on being low on fees and unnecessary rules, and big on support and encouragement. About once every couple of months we have club socials, and through the summer months we do a social ‘away’ run from a local pub, which is always followed up by chip butties, beer and cake. Running in a group is more fun and often more productive than running on your own, and it is amazing how much more running in a regular group gets you out, especially when the weather is not so great.

Training and racing: For those that wish to push themselves and bring their times down, there is plenty of opportunity to do that in our structured sessions. Alternatively, those that want to come down for a steady run will also find that they are well catered for too. Not everyone races but for those that are interested in doing so, many find that racing for a club can be a much more rewarding experience than racing unattached, the atmosphere and the support you can expect on your debut is often thought of as the tipping point where people really start thinking of themselves as a runner!

We are dedicated to supporting you with your training.  Since October 2018 every group and every session is lead by someone with the England Athletics LIRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) qualification, enhanced DBS check and Level 1 Safeguarding.

Join Us: We are a club of mixed abilities and welcome all runners, although if you are not yet able to run 10km in under 1hr 10 minutes we ask that you contact us to discuss what options might be available to you. As a rough guide, the paces for our groups are listed below:

G1 – 7:30 to 7:45 min/mile pace
G2 – 8:00 to 8:30 min/mile pace
G3 – 8:45 to 9:15 min/mile pace
G4 – 9:30 to 10:00 min/mile pace
G5 – 10:15 to 11:00 min/mile pace

Note that these paces apply to our Thursday sessions, whilst Tuesday training sessions are usually self-paced and you run as fast/far as you are comfortable with (Hills/Intervals/Loops/etc.).

If you’d like to come and have some trial runs with us, please use the contact us page and one of us will get back to you to find out a bit more about you and where you’re at with your running and which of our sessions might be best to get you started in. There’s absolutely no obligation to join the club straightaway – you get a free week with us (2 sessions) before deciding if you do want to join.

Our membership costs are £35 per year – this includes your £19 England Athletics membership fee meaning that the actual club fee is only £16 for the year (i.e. in effect not much more than £1 per month!).

If you’ve already run with us and are looking for the membership form, we now ask all new members to complete our online form that can be found here

We meet at the Doncaster Dome Cycle Hub every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:35pm for those wanting to warm up, with 6:45pm being the time for the main session.  See below for a map and an aerial photograph of our location

Best car park to use is Car Park 4 which is the last one on Booth Avenue (runs parallel to Bawtry Road), although this can get quite busy with Gym users, so you might want to also consider Car Parks 2 or 3 further back towards Asda as well.
